Health Initiatives and Screenings

Over the past ten years, Speaking of Women’s Health has been built on providing cutting-edge information on the state of health care for women. Women are affected by a number of health care, well-being and personal safety issues. Here are just a few of those subjects that we’ve made our top-priority national health initiatives over the last decade.

Heart Health
We are certainly making progress in educating women about heart disease, yet many are still not aware that heart disease is the number one killer of women. More American women will die of heart disease each year than all cancers combined – 37% - and when combined with stroke, that number jumps to 50%.

To educate women about heart disease, Speaking of Women’s Health has made it our number one health priority over the last ten years. Heart health is an important and highly popular breakout session at our conferences and heart health screenings are provided in every city. Women are able to find out their cholesterol levels, measure their blood pressure, review their body mass index and learn valuable information to keep their hearts healthy!

Osteoporosis
Several years ago, Speaking of Women’s Health launched our continuing educational health initiative on osteoporosis. What began as education and awareness to build strong bones, now includes new medicines to actually build bone mass and prevent bone fractures. Osteoporosis is a treatable, and often preventable, disease.

This is why Speaking of Women’s Health offers bone screenings at every conference to measure every woman’s risk for osteoporosis. While a DEXA scan is the “gold standard,” our screenings help make women aware of their risks and can be the first indicator to see their doctor.

Beauty and Body Image
We at Speaking of Women’s Health know that health isn’t all about what’s on the inside – what’s on the outside is just as important! When women look their best, they feel their best and we recognize that beauty and body image play an important role in a woman’s physical and emotional health.

At every conference, we offer personalized beauty and body image consultations for each of our attendees. Whether it’s a new hairdo, a makeup makeover or a skin analysis, our screenings inform women about what looks best for them – empowering all women to radiate from the inside out!

Digestive Health
A sixth sense, a woman’s intuition, a gut feeling – Speaking of Women’s Health knows that “trusting your gut” is vital to a woman’s health, well-being and personal safety. Yet, that rumbling in the tummy isn’t always something women want to talk about, but should.

Our digestive systems are important to our health, and keeping them healthy is a vital part of staying strong. Speaking of Women’s Health has made “that gut feeling” an important health topic for women, who learn how to gauge their health by using their “second brain.”

Financial Health
Who says that a woman’s financial health isn’t as important as her physical health? Finances directly contribute to a woman’s emotional well-being and that of her family.
In recent years, Speaking of Women’s Health has made taking control of finances a top priority. Through financial screenings and consultations, we’ve helped women evaluate their present finances and visualize their financial futures.

Breast Health
A woman’s breast health is close to her heart – literally. Speaking of Women’s Health has supported the presence of breast health education and mammography centers at our health education events.

Mental Health
A woman’s mental well-being is just as important as her physical health – a sound mind and a sharp memory are important as women get older – and hopefully, wiser! Speaking of Women’s Health has made the brain a key health initiative, with informative breakout sessions and screenings.

Vision
The gift of sight is just that – a gift. Speaking of Women’s Health wants to make sure that women keep their eyes as sharp as their minds. We provide vision and glaucoma screenings at many of our events to make sure women keep a watchful eye on the rest of their health.
